School Cancellation Notification
Every effort was made to contact each of you on Friday after the decision was made to delay the start of school and later to cancel. All of the television stations in Lubbock were called. They did not scroll the cancelation, even after a second request was made, because only two or three schools were effected. Sharon Maines on the KCBD morning show did announce the cancellation. KSSL radio station was called and announced the cancellation as well.
The School Reach system was used and the majority of parents and employees received the message.
For School Reach to be effective, you should do the following:
When you see a call from that number answer and say “HELLO”. The message will start after a short delay. (If you do not answer with a greeting the automated message will be delayed attempting to leave a voicemail message.)
- Verify with the school that we have the correct number in the School Reach system.
- If you are using a cell phone put the school’s number in your contacts so you will recognize the call as important. 806-271-3272
Students, Nominate "Teachers on the Rise"
Mrs Baird's has teamed up with United Supermarkets and the Texas Classroom Teachers Association (TCTA) to honor teachers in the Lubbock area. Every month during the school year, students can log onto www.MrsBTeacher.com to nominate a teacher that goes above and beyond the call of duty. It may be one who stays long after school to help tutor or provide winter coats to students who cannot afford one. Each month, Mrs Baird's will award three Teachers on the Rise winners--one in elementary, one middle/junior high school, and one high school. Each teacher will receive gift cards and TCTA prize basket. The students who nominate a winning teacher will also receive a gift card. All winning teachers will be eligible for the grand prize at the end of the year.
